About

Family Research & Acknowledgements

After years of careful research, descendants from all three family lines came together to confirm their shared heritage. For many years, the Claremont branch believed their roots traced back to Java—until both oral tradition and DNA evidence clearly connected them to Shaykh Sulaiman.

Anver Sedan played a key role in tracing his lineage to the Shaykh and in reaching out to Mogamat Armien Slamang from the Claremont line, who had also been researching his ancestry.

We are also grateful to Yunus Aswat, with whom we share a paternal ancestor from around 700 years ago, for his assistance in interpreting and analyzing DNA results.

Together, they helped shape a clearer picture of our family’s origins.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed—whether remembered by name or not. Your efforts are part of this ongoing legacy.

This website is dedicated to the memory of Shaykh Sulaiman and his descendants. May it serve as a means to preserve and honour our shared heritage, insha’Allah.

Website Scope

Dear Family,

This website has been intentionally designed with a focused scope to ensure clarity, accuracy, and respect for our family dynamics. We are not publishing detailed family trees. Instead, our goals are to:

  1. Focus on Shaykh Sulaiman and his immediate family
  2. Help descendants identify which line they belong to: Worcester, Claremont, or Wynberg
  3. Preserve oral history and key artifacts, including scrolls and archival records
  4. Highlight notable contributions by descendants—such as mosques built or Islamic scholarship (limited to approximately four generations)
  5. Limit information to male descendants where applicable, to avoid content overload
  6. Encourage each family branch to build and maintain their own family trees using specialist websites, which can also help identify and connect relatives across branches

We hope this site becomes a meaningful point of connection, learning, and remembrance for all.
